Q12-1. Can I transfer to a different faculty?
A

Students are not allowed to enter a faculty/department other than one listed on the letter of acceptance.

*To enter the undergraduate program, students must take and pass the Qualifying Test after completing the Preparatory Course.

Q12-2. Will you cover my expenses for travelling to Japan?
A

All students must cover their own travel expenses. However, "Kyoto iUP, Kyoto University - JUGAS Supplementary Scholarship" for Singaporean students sponsors a one-way economy class airline ticket from Singapore to Japan.

Q12-3. What are the average living expenses for a student in Japan ?
A

This depends on the student's expenditure on housing and food. However, according to the Study in Japan Basic Guide (produced by JASSO), the average monthly living expenses is 93,000 yen. This page can also be a good reference.

Q12-4. Can I work a part-time job?
A

In general, iUP students are not allowed to work part-time jobs. However, they may be allowed to do some part-time jobs under some conditions if permitted by the Kyoto iUP Office.

A

Yes. Kyoto University has many clubs and circles covering a wide range of interests, including arts, sports, and culture.

Q12-6. I feel nervous about living alone in a foreign country. Do you provide support to international students who are unfamiliar with Japan?
A

The tutors will provide you with various forms of support in getting settled in Japan, including Japanese language support.

A

All persons who live in Japan for more than three months must enroll in the National Health Insurance system, which covers 70% of medical treatment costs (The person receiving treatment must pay 30% of the treatment costs).

A

We have several spaces for worship and prayer on campus. Also, there are several churches and mosques in Kyoto.

Q12-10. Can I enter a graduate program at Kyoto University after completing my undergraduate studies at Kyoto iUP?
A

Although you must take and pass an entrance examination for the graduate school of your choice, you can enter the graduate school if you obtain a bachelor's degree through Kyoto iUP. Please refer to FAQ1-3 for information on scholarship programs at graduate schools.

Q12-12. Can I participate in an internship during my vacation period?
A

You may participate in an internship during the vacation period. However, even during vacation periods, intensive Japanese language courses are scheduled, so if you are required to participate in the courses, you should pay attention to the timing of your participation in internships.

A

At Kyoto University, the Career Support Center provides all students with information about internships and job hunting. In addition to these, Kyoto iUP Office offers valuable internship opportunities on and off campus exclusively for Kyoto iUP students.We are working to further enhance these internship opportunities for Kyoto iUP students in the future.

Q12-14. Does Kyoto University provide any support for job-seeking?
A

As answered in the previous FAQ (12-13), Kyoto University's Career Support Center plays a central role in providing students with information about job hunting, and all students, including Kyoto iUP students, have access to this information.
Also, the Kyoto iUP Office provides an opportunity for students interested in finding a job in Japan to visit professional staff members at the Career Support Center and learn directly from them about the schedule and characteristics of job hunting in Japan and the necessary preparations and strategies.
